Governor Bill Richardson Announces Second Annual
New Mexico Music in Film Summit

(Santa Fe) – Governor Bill Richardson today announced the 2010 NM Music in Film Summit which will take place September 24th at the Lensic Theatre in Santa Fe. This event marks the second annual event of its kind and will be co-hosted by the NM Music Commission/Department of Cultural Affairs, NM Film Office and NM Tourism Department.

Music, television and film professionals from around the country will be in attendance to speak with locals about the music in film industry and will cover topics such as working in the industry, the Grammy® process, music licensing, mechanics and contracts. The state has been working with the Recording Academy Los Angeles Chapter to coordinate the summit and speakers.

Five panelists who will speak have worked on major motion picture soundtracks such as Avatar, Walk the Line, Moulin Rouge, Sex & The City 2 and Grey's Anatomy. They include:
Mike Knobloch (President, Film Music & Publishing, Universal Pictures)
Julia Michels (Music Supervisor, Format Entertainment)
Lizzy Moore (West Regional Director, The Recording Academy)
Alexandra Patsavas (President/CEO, Chop Shop Music)
Randy Spendlove (President, Motion Picture Music, Paramount Pictures)

"We have hundreds of remarkably talented, diverse musicians in New Mexico. This is an incredible opportunity for them to learn about the music in film business from industry leaders and further their knowledge in this field," said Governor Richardson.
This event provides an opportunity for the industry leaders to see first hand what is happening in the film, television and music business in New Mexico. Last year, we had the VP of Music and Soundtracks at Disney Channel participate in the summit. Less than a year later Disney is shooting a musical in the state," says Lizzy Moore, West Regional Director of the Recording Academy Los Angeles Chapter.

Locals will also learn how the Recording Academy operates and what it takes to win a GRAMMY Award. New Mexico Music Commission Executive Director Nancy Laflin explained that the summit is specifically tailored to New Mexicans, and that while this is not an auditioning event, there will be areas in the lobby for musicians to drop off their music for visiting panelists.

No RSVP process is necessary for those interested in attending. Seating at the Lensic will be provided on a first come, first served basis.
